Under Construction 2017 is a devised play with music based on America today. The format is structured much like a collage in which different scenes, songs, raps, monologues and projected art-work are grouped together based on topics that we explored in rehearsals. The play is about us, Americans, and how we currently live, think and thrive in the United States. Our cast come from diverse backgrounds, an English professor and writer whose family lineage can be traced back to the beginning of North Carolina colonial settlements, a Puerto Rican American musician, an immigrant from the African country Burundi, a black rapper, a black actor, two white females who identify in different ways with the LGBTQ community, an Iranian American. The ensemble is a slice of America and their voice and thoughts are, like America, constantly Under Construction.

Greensboro based Alternative Rock band Mightier Than Me showcases the folk stylized vocals of front-man and rhythm guitarist Randy Williams, backed by a rock rhythm section and topped with electronic accents and vocal harmonies for an out-of-this-world combination. Founded in 2015 by lead guitarist Wes Frank Norman after meeting Williams and bassist Robert Seawell in an ensemble class at the Larry Gattling School of Music. Upon realizing all three were seeking bands, and noting their musical chemistry, the group quickly formed when Norman introduced "What Happened Yesterday" band-mate Charlie Fuson into the equation on drums. The four began writing and sharing songs over the next six months. Michael Dorsett joined the band early 2016.

In her arresting show, Dael Orlandersmith gives us six unforgettable male characters whose dissimilarities belie their inescapable link: a traumatic past plagued by a cycle of violence and abuse. Taking us from Coney Island to Manchester, England and back, Stephanie Lindley and Jamila Curry will bring to life a series of harrowing stories that weave together each character's friends, family, lovers, and counselors into an explosive narrative that uncovers the darkest corners of humanity -- and shatters our notions about predators and their victims. At once powerful and heartbreakingly poetic, BLACK N BLUE BOYS/BROKEN MEN will leave you breathless.
